ONE LIFE ON EARTH, BE A MENTOR, HELP OUR GLOBAL VILLAGE,
YOU CAN DO IT !
BEIJING - Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, on a trip to China,
opened a first-of-its-kind city tourism office in Beijing on Monday that
he hopes will encourage travel to his hometown and pump hundreds of
millions of dollars into its economy.
"Los Angeles is putting down a permanent welcome mat for the
tens of millions of Chinese tourists who will visit our great city in
the coming years," Villaraigosa said in a statement. "More
tourism means more jobs and a healthier economy."
The announcement in a Beijing office complex came on the second day
of Villaraigosa's two week trip to China, where he was eager to pitch
Los Angeles as full of opportunities for the expanding markets of China,
South Korea and Japan - the city's top three trading
GUANGZHOU, China - Villaraigosa said he's comfortable socializing
with the Chinese because he follows the golden rules of relationship
building: Be genuine, be real.
"I come with assets," he said. "I come from a Latin
American background. Respect is important. The values of the Chinese are
things I'm comfortable with. The fact that I have my foot in two
cultures gives me a comfort level culturally."
Back home, Villaraigosa is a kinetic, physical man who loves to throw
his arm around friends or squeeze someone's arm to emphasize a point.
Here in China, he has restrained that impulse when around officials, but
not so much when talking with students who draw out his animated side.
He's admittedly not the scholarly type, but he is playing on his
strengths: understanding people and being a quick study.
And that means paying attention to details.

WHEN TRAVEL IN CHINA
Xijiao Guest House, located on the quiet Hongqiao Road is the biggest
garden guest house in Shanghai, occupying more than 80 hectares. Only 5
kilometers away from Hognqiao International Airport. The Guest House is
renown for the beauty and variety of its gardens, possessing lakes,
rivers and many secluded woodland areas. The hotel looks more like a
beautiful garden. Birds fly in the sky, fish swim in the water, and
animals jump among the woods. Here in Xijiao Guest House you can feel
harmony between people and nature in 21 century. Several heads of
foreign states and government, such as Queen Elizabeth II, Japanese
Emperor Akihito stayed here during their visiting in Shanghai.

TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY
Just a word of thanks for your invitation to participate in the
Sino American Goodwill Association and WTOBO trip to China.
Simon, for anyone interested in making the right Chinese Contacts
for business purposes, working through your organization - SAGA
& WTOBO - would be the way to go. The officials we met were the
right contacts. It would be like coming to our country and meeting
with the Vice President of the United States, Secretary of State, a
member of the Federal Reserve Board, a Governor, and the Mayor of
New York, Boston and Chicago. Quite a menu of influential people.
These are the people to see to establish venture business
enterprises or international trade dealings. This trip also resulted
in a better understanding of each other's country as well as
international relationship considerations.
Kindest personal regards,
Newton E. Miller
